Jackson Hole Film Festival Announces 2008 Dates & World Program Spotlight
Today the Jackson Hole Film Festival, a premier independent film festival, announced the 5th Anniversary festival will take place Thursday, June 5th - Monday, June 9th, 2008. Submissions opened today. Read more for submission dates and qualifications.

Call for Submissions for the 2008 Jackson Hole Film Festival will open today, Wednesday, August 15th, 2007 for all seven competitive programs & filmmakers will be able to apply online exclusively through www.withoutabox.com.

Deadlines to submit U.S. and International films for the 2008 Jackson Hole Film Festival are as follows:

  • October 15th, 2007 Olympic EARLY BIRD DEADLINE
  • January 31st, 2008 Olympic REGULAR DEADLINE
  • February 22nd, 2008 Olympic LATE DEADLINE

In addition, the Festival’s competitive World Program, which annually highlights the cinematic accomplishments of independent filmmaking from a different country or region, will spotlight Latin America for its 5th Anniversary Festival. To qualify, films must be produced, directed and filmed within one or more of the following countries: Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Chile, Columbia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, Uruguay or Venezuela.

The remaining six competitive programs of the Jackson Hole Film Festival include: Indie Features, Shorts and Documentaries; Global Insight, films that broaden awareness on humanitarian issues; Sports Action, films that explore an athlete’s journey in traditional and non-tradition sports; and Student Voices, showcasing the emerging talent of student filmmakers from around the world.

Additional Cowboy Awards are presented for the coveted Audience Choice Award, Best Director, Best Cinematographer, Best Editor and Best Composer. The 2007 Jackson Hole Film Festival attracted over 6,500 attendees and screened 90 films from more than 20 different countries over the five-day period. 2007 Cowboy Award winners included: "Darius Goes West: The Roll Of His Life” by Logan Smalley for Best Documentary & the Audience Choice Award sponsored by Wexler, "Black Irish” by Brad Gann for Best Feature sponsored by American Express & "Memories of Tomorrow” by Yukihiko Tsutsumi starring Academy Award nominee Ken Watanabe for Best World Program Feature Olympic Spotlight: The Far East. ABOUT THE FESTIVAL

The Jackson Hole Film Festival, a premier independent film festival, is a program of the Jackson Hole Film Institute. The Festival is widely recognized for keeping independent filmmakers at the center of its programming. The 2008 Festival will occur June 5-9, 2008 and screen approximately 80 independent films competing in 7 competitive program categories.
